Fire Play Safety Kit

November 26th, 2007 by ase_X

I had to make a post about the safety concerns of all of us when we play with fire. As safety is the NUMBER 1 thing about playing with fire.

If you do not have a safety kit; DO NOT SPIN FIRE.

The most important thing in a safety kit is a Spotter/Saftey Person, no matter what- always have a safety spotter or DO NOT SPIN!! I can Not express this enough! The more safeties the better!

**Always remember to Stretch/warm up Prior to playing!**

Area should be a clean, open, flat area. NO power lines, trees, leaves, animals, rocks, traffic etc. # 1 Rule About the area you use: Always Leave the area better then when you found it!

Safe clothing is a whole section which I will cover asap! For now, never wear anything that has fringes or lose woven material. The best stuff to stick with is 100% cotton, jean material, leather, kevlar/nomex, (which is fire resistant.)

Fuel is another section that I will need to cover asap. Even though kerosene smells bad it has one of the lowest flash points, otherwise I recommend white gas although white gas transfers a lot easier then kerosene does.

Now here’s what you should have in your kit/on site:

Medical Insurance Card/ID
Cell/Phone ready + service available
Legible Address written down near phone
Bucket of Water- Not for extinguishing a large fire.
Water Dispersing Device (ie electric squirt gun, water worm, wide shot super soaker, garden hose)
Wet Towel- For very small put outs, but it is always better to use the water dispersing device.
Fire Blanket/ Army Blanket- Cover the fire to put it out, stop the air from getting to the flame.
Fire Extinguisher- Never use on someones skin as it can cause serious damage!

Safety Gloves- For applying treatments
Band-aids
Gauze & or Med wrap
Tylenol or Aspirin
Burn Ointment- For small burns, like from the chain. Any other burn seek medical attention.
Cold packs
